Russian President Vladimir Putin is making a statement after his Security Council met earlier to deliberate on whether to recognize the two self-declared breakaway republics of Donetsk and Lugansk in Ukraine’s Donbass region.

“As for the borders of the DPR and LPR, they are defined by their fundamental documents on sovereignty and confirmed by referenda in 2014. From the point of view of the LNR and the DNR, the territories of the former Donetsk and Lugansk regions, which are now under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, are the occupied territories of the DNR and LNR.”  (HT REMARK: He means Occupied by Ukraine!)  

The relevant documents between the Russian Federation and the LDNR (essentially identical to those signed by the Russian Federation with South Ossetia and Abkhazia) will be signed tomorrow, which, after the recognition of the LNR and the DNR, will legalize the deployment of Russian troops in the Donbass.

1: 50 PM EST —  In an effort to prevent this, Ukraine has just declared Martial Law in the entire country.
